  • Botulinum toxin prevents the release of a neurotransmitter needed for muscle contraction. This stops the muscle moving as much and therefore stops wrinkles forming on the skin.

  • This treatment starts to work after 2-5 days. The maximum effect is seen at 14 days.

  • You may notice some movement return around 6 weeks after your treatment with further movement returning gradually between 6-12 weeks. It takes approximately 10-12 weeks for your body to clear the effects of the treatment and therefore the treatment has worn off for most people after this time period, but some people find it last longer than this.

  • Anti-wrinkle treatment is a substance injected into a muscle to stop it contracting as much. Dermal filler is a gel like substance injected into strategic places in order to restore volume or structure. During your consultation with Dr Nicola Vella the merits of each treatment will be discussed and a bespoke plan can be created for you.

  • The most common areas to treat with anti-wrinkle treatment are the horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows and crows feet. Other areas include the lines on the nose when smiling (bunny lines), the muscle that holds the lip up to prevent a gummy smile. A downturned mouth can also be improved as well as a square or wide jaw (the treatmant acts to reduce the size of the chewing muscle to slim the jaw).

  • This treatment can be used to soften existing lines, but it can also be used for prevention. The best time to start is when you start noticing fine lines forming. There are no ill-effects from having repeated treatments provided they are spaced at least 3 months apart.

  • Absolutely, more and more men are having anti-wrinkle treatments.

  • Unfortunately not, you cannot have any injectable aesthetic treatments whilst pregnant or breastfeeding for safety reasons.

  • Discomfort during anti-wrinkle treatment is minimal. Very fine needles are used and the treatment is over within a matter of minutes. For particularly anxious patients, a topical numbing cream can be used.

  • Every patient is offered a follow-up appointments 2-4 weeks after the treatment date. If any tweaks are needed at this appointment they are free of charge.
